Our Board

Dan Orchard

PRESIDENT

I bought property on Six Mile Lake in 2000 and soon after built a cottage. This cottage has turned into my home as I am now a permanent resident of the lake with my wife of 37 years. I am volunteering my time for the Alliance because I believe in healthy and timely accountability of our local planning decisions. I have been involved in several levels of government over the years, which has given me the experience to work with the local government for the benefit of Six Mile Lake.

Jack has enjoyed spending many hours on Six Mile Lake at relative’s cottages since the 1960’s and he and his immediate family purchased three cottages on Six Mile Lake in 2009. Jack and his family now enjoy beautiful Six Mile Lake during all four seasons of the year. The promotion and protection of the interests of the Six Mile Lake Community are of the utmost importance to Jack.

Audrey Hartjes

CHAIR & TREASURER

I have been a seasonal resident of Six Mile Lake for more than 50 years. Being raised as a cottage kid has instilled in me a sense of continuity and respect for the special environment that we are truly blessed to have in our lives. My commitment to democracy, hard work, honesty, transparency, and open dialogue throughout the Six Mile Lake community are the reasons for my involvement within the Six Mile Lake Ratepayers Alliance. The Six Mile lake community is ready for change and I am ready and willing to be a part of that change.

Peter Olar

CHAIR, TOWNSHIP WATCH

My wife Margaret and I have been on Six Mile Lake since May 2000 and plan to retire there some day. I joined the SMLRA as a result of concerns that the majority of the residents on SML are not being informed of serious issues that affect them, and their property values. My goal is to help educate the SML community while also working with local government to ensure that the SML residents are well represented.

Karen Petrie

CHAIR, MEMBERSHIPS

Karen joined other family members as a cottage owner on Six Mile Lake in 2010.  Having retired in 2020 during the pandemic, Karen is pleased to be supporting the SMLRA mission and is enjoying more time with her family at the lake. She loves watching her Grandchildren becoming “cottage kids” as has been a tradition in the Petrie family for many years, having grown up enjoying cottage life from a very young age.
